How it works

Every Etsy sale incurs at least three fees. The listing fee ($0.20) is charged when you publish or renew a listing. The transaction fee (6.5%) is applied to the combined item price and shipping you charge the buyer. The payment processing fee (3% + $0.25) is charged on the full order total when the buyer pays through Etsy Payments. These three fees are non-negotiable for US sellers; verify current rates at etsy.com/legal/fees before pricing decisions.

Sellers enrolled in Etsy's Offsite Ads program pay an additional fee — 15% of the order total for sellers earning less than $10,000/year through Etsy, and 12% for sellers above that threshold — on any sale that originated from an Offsite Ad click. Sellers above $10,000/year are required to participate; others can opt out. Enable the 12% or 15% Offsite Ads option to model the worst-case scenario for any sale.

The break-even item price is the minimum you must charge (given a fixed shipping amount and your cost of goods) so that net proceeds do not go negative. It is derived algebraically from the fee structure: total_revenue × (1 − variable_fee_rates) = fixed_fees + COGS. Use it as a price floor, not a target — you still need margin for overheads, returns, and profit.

Frequently asked questions

Does Etsy charge fees on shipping?+

Yes. The 6.5% transaction fee and the 3% payment processing fee both apply to the shipping amount you charge the buyer, not just the item price. If you offer free shipping by rolling the cost into your item price, the math is the same — the buyer's total is the base for all percentage fees. This calculator applies all percentage fees to (item price + shipping) exactly as Etsy does.

What are Offsite Ads fees and can I avoid them?+

Offsite Ads is Etsy's program that promotes listings on Google, Facebook, and other platforms. When a buyer clicks one of those ads and purchases within 30 days, Etsy charges an extra 12% or 15% on that order. Sellers with less than $10,000 in annual Etsy revenue can opt out via Shop Manager → Marketing → Offsite Ads. Sellers above that threshold are automatically enrolled and cannot opt out. This calculator is not financial advice — verify your enrollment status and current rates in your Etsy account.

Are there other fees not included here?+

Yes. This calculator covers the four main per-order fees: listing, transaction, payment processing, and Offsite Ads. It does not include optional fees such as Etsy Ads (on-platform PPC), Pattern subscription, or shipping label costs. Currency conversion fees apply to international sales but are not modeled here. For a full and current list of all fees applicable to your shop, refer to Etsy's official fee policy. This tool is an estimate aid, not legal or financial advice.
